Here is the way I'm thinking the template should work. This would'nt be the final version of the template, but this is close enough to show you how I would like it to work. We would have a template with all of the reference points and lines for each of the sprite's poses (Walking, sword attack, magic attack, ect). Then we can draw the different pieces of armor, or magician's robes, pants, ect over the template in each pose and scan it in to get the finished piece. We won't need to redraw each pose completely. Alot of that can be done in photoshop quite easily.
Can anyone think of a better way to get finished, consistent versions all of the poses and armor? Obviously this template needs some refinement, but what do you guys think of the basic idea? The reference points and lines would'nt be as prominent in the working versions of the templates, so as not to be distracting.
I have some more ideas about how the template and sprite building process should work, but they will be better explained in person. Give me some input, dudes.
Cool Dan! The basic sprite character looks kind of like Corey! Your system looks like it will work well. When we have designed the basic armor shapes it will be relatively easy to move them around for the different poses.
ReplyDeleteWhen designing armor and clothes it is helpful to get as much reference material as you can find and study it to fill your head with the different shapes, colors, and styles before you draw. Then put the material aside and just start drawing and see what comes out! Let's make a list of all the poses we need.
World-
Standing
Walking Pose 1: north, south, east, west
Walking Pose 2: north, south, east, west
Emotions: Happy, Sad, Angry, Upset, Bored, Enthusiastic (maybe we could use an emotional indicator like in anime or mange? like the water droplet or other weird symbols they use)

Battle!
Too tired to think of them all.
